A diagnosis of a blood cancer impacts all areas of life. An important focus for our team is the provision of best supportive care for our patients and their families. Supportive care focuses on managing the wider impact a blood cancer diagnosis and its treatment has on the patient and their families.
Some of the aspects relating to supportive care include providing and managing:
Information and education needs
Communication and coordination
Providing a central point of contact within wider blood cancer team
Physical health and fitness
Nutritional needs
Emotional and psychological support
Rehabilitation
Practical and financial support
Palliative care and symptom management
Delivering best supportive care to our patients and their families is undertaken by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals who work together to provide patient centered approach to care. Supportive care is an important aspect of managing people affected by a blood cancer, alongside evidenced based treatment approaches.
